Nathan Lane came to see our production of PROFESSOR BERNHARDI, and here he is with our brilliant, huge cast. This is Arthur Schnitlzer’s masterpiece, about the witch-hunt of a Jewish surgeon in turn of the century Vienna. It had been banned in the US and much of Europe. Incredibly, ours was the first NYC production. The writing abounds with scalpel-sharp irony, heart-stirring eloquence, moral ambivalence, passionate dispute, and beautifully modulated surprises. One of my favorites, made me an adorer of Schnitzler. Nearly three and a half hours long (trimmed from its original length of nearly five hours), it flies by with the velocity of a political thriller.
